At Operations
Associates, we believe that good data forms the basis
for most good analysis and decisions. Yet often the data
doesn’t exist or is corrupted. Then what? Or, what if
our “gut” (which often is based on expert knowledge)
disagrees with the data? Even among all of the
“quant-jock” engineers at Operations Associates, we find
that sometimes the data doesn’t tell the whole story,
and so it can lead to the wrong conclusion. So we think
the best decisions are ones where we review and
understand the quantitative data, and then factor in the
gut opinions.
In the spirit of the season, here’s an interesting web
site analyzing the existence of Santa Claus. Sometimes
the data doesn’t tell the whole story: So, despite the
“data”, yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.
